Shooting Gloves

Not being a glove wearer myself I had to do a bit of research into why people wear shooting gloves. I didnt really appreciate that many people wear them simply to improve the tactile effect of the hand on the barrels and that these people always wear them - so their glove requirements are quite different to those who wear them in cold or very cold weather.

So we now stock 3 types of glove; these are all made by a very old established firm of glovers in Dorset who use the very best dark green Pittard leather. They make a wide range of both Ladies and Gents sizes to fit everyone.

Pittard WR100X leather is the world leader in the sporting glove market. It shrugs off moisture and allows perspiration to escape without any change to the structure of the leather , it is used in many applications in the sporting world.

The CLAY PIGEON glove is unlined with a slit or top hat trigger finger, the wrist is elasticated and fastened by an adjustable velcro strap. This glove seems to worn by the person who likes that tactile feel on the barrels and always wears a glove ( or gloves ) whatever the weather.

The MARKSMAN is an all round glove, beautifully made with a real silk lining and proper fine nylon cuffs with an elasticated wrist, I would suggest that this is the glove most guns would wear when in November it starts to get colder. It is made in dark green Pittards WR100X leather with a pleasing pepper pot print - this is the classic shooting glove in very best quality.

The MOORLAND is for those with cold hands. It is similar to the Marksman but lined with the finest of suede lamb to cover the back of your hands ( not the fingers ) this glove will keep the coldest of hands warm but will also allow you to keep that essential contact with the gun barrels.

Finally for those that lose gloves or need several pairs we have the EVERYDAY glove this is a close copy of The clay pigeon glove at half the price, this a well made glove that will give excellent service but wont break the bank.

The LAMMIE SHOOTER

I used to wear these sheepskin lined mitts in my distant youth when the wigeon called and I had yet to have my first fright with mud patterns. I didnt realise that they were still made but of course gloves patterns are as old as time and my Dorset Firm has never stopped making them.

These gloves work on the principal that as long as your wrists and the backs of your hands are warm then your whole hand will be warm - and it works. I like these for spring and autumn salmon fishing and for shooting when it is very cold and or wet.

The difference between these gloves and the with fingers variety is that when you handle something wet repeatedly then your gloves get wet and that means cold fingers.

With these gloves your fingers will get wet but as the air will still circulate around them, they dry quite quickly; so you can have the luxury of warm hands and still feel the rod, gun , stick or whatever you have in your hands. You may have guessed that I like them.

LADY'S LOVAT SHEEPSKIN GLOVES

Beautifully soft gloves, lined with the finest sheepskin that I suspect is actually lambsskin, these gloves are my wifes favourite - she has cold hands so these are a lifeline in winter and at other times of the year.

The outer skin is a very soft lovat green and the seams are all external to maximise the smooth warm interior . The lambswool extends right up the cuff, which isnt a cuff but a loose extension of the glove. Far too hot for me but a great pair of gloves for the outdoor lady and strongly recommended by Susan.
