Hearing Protection

Protection from the harmfull effects of shotgun shooting and full bore rifle shooting come in two forms firstly ' in the ear' protection and then 'over the ear' protection. Each person has their own ideas about which is more effective and /or more comfortable but the products available are changing and improving and we can offer the best products to suit both camps.

Over the ear protection is the simplest and I refuse to sell ear muffs that dont have any form of amplification in them. As a shoot organiser I think the man in his cheap ear muffs who cant hear any external noise is not really taking part in the day. He cant hear instructions from any quarter, he cant hear birds in the air and often seems to be in a sort of trance.

Amplification is a must!

I sell a lot of SOLAR POWERED ear muffs with virtually no problems , they have cured for ever the search for new batteries at the start of the shoot and they have proved a great success. This is a very successful product.

The top of the range PELTOR SPORT TAC is the only serious contender to the solar powered ear muffs. It is battery powered and has an impressive specification with 600 hours of battery life and the batteries are straightforward AAAs. They are also particularly comfortable and I think sound quality is meant to be better than the solar powered ones but I am not very well up on this sort of technical specification.Personally I have worn in the ear protection for 20 years so I think it comes down to personal choice in the end - both pairs cost about the same.

SOLAR POWERED EARMUFFS

I have a nice oak cabinet in our local shooting hotel and normal battery powered earmuffs used to be a steady seller; however since I started to sell these solar powered ones I havent sold any of the battery type! The search for the correct replacement batteries was always at the wrong time and clearly a problem.

These solar powered muffs have stood the test of time ( 4 years ) and now I have stopped selling the battery type. The weather doesnt seem to affect them and they work ( both ears have independant volume control ) perfectly well on dull days as well as sunny ones. The makers say that they should be put in the sun regularly but from experience it doesnt seem to matter. The acoustics seem good and no better or worse than the alternative. A useful product for those who havent gone to the " in your ear custom variety " which is my own choice.
