Knives |
I have always been a knife fan, but I insist on them being use able. If you wouldn't gralloch a roebuck with it then its not my sort of knife but of course you don't need a big knife for this job so my knives encompass a wide range of styles and sizes - but nothing too esoteric.

Knives are where I depart from my buy British policy ( everything else I offer is made in the UK ), the better knives in this country are too expensive for me to sell at a modest profit so whilst I am very happy to sell Sheffield made "working knives" I go to South Africa and India for the more interesting knives; without beating about the bush it is all down to labour cost.
My SHEFFIELD knives are excellent value for money and made by one of the small number of traditional cutlers left in that famous knife making city. The fixed blade knife is a Ray Mears shape but with a stag handle and slightly softer steel - we use ours for gralloching not playing with fire sticks, so it does not need to be so hard as he prefers. From the same stable comes a nice variety of folding ( not lock blades ) knives with a little bit of embellishment, some have two blades but mainly only one, these knives are excellent value, highly recommended as nice everyday string cutting tools.

Our INDIAN knives have to be seen to be appreciated, please forget any notion of tourist rubbish, India has a long tradition of knife making and all ours are Damascus steel with the most glorious patterns on the blades, no two being the same. The photos will give you an idea, the handles are either camel bone ( looks like ivory ) or water buffalo ( black )they come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes the only problem being deciding which you prefer. All come with a fair quality leather belt sheath, the prices are amazing.
I have a few small lock blades which have Damascus blades but at this time the choice is limited - I do intend to stock up with more.

SOUTH AFRICAN knives. Thanks to the exchange rate I can offer beautiful handmade knives made by Francois Greyling in South Africa. These knives are absolutely best quality and the detail on each one has to seen, no two are the same and each has an artists touch. For instance I have a large lock knife which has a cape buffalo handle, the horn has been cut in such a way as to show a bullet lodged in the horn and also the end of the handle has been left rough but the other end polished - so tactile and superb. Francois is a metal work teacher and only makes a few knives each year, but I am fortunate in buying about half his stock each year. I have a good stock at present including fixed blades, liner locks , lock blades and damascus blades. I always order plenty with hippo and warthog ivory as these are my favourites, the blades are all best quality, highly polished Sandvic.
These knives do not have sheaths.
